Ashi-Thai is a newly blended massage technique incorporating traditional Thai stretching and deep compression work. This blend is powerfully effective (while still preserving the meditative and relaxing qualities of a traditional Thai massage).
Both stretching and massage therapy have been proven beneficial for many chronic conditions such as back pain, arthritis, bursitis, fatigue, high blood pressure, diabetes, immunity suppression, infertility, smoking cessation, depression and more, so it makes perfect sense to combine the two modalities together into one unique, but doubly beneficial treatment.
Thai massage has jokingly been known as ”lazy man’s yoga”, since the recipient simply needs to lie down, focus on breathing, and passively receives comfortable and produtive stretches performed by the therapist.
Thai massage is typically performed on a mat on the floor, while Ashi-Thai has been creatively adapted for delivery on a massage table, while still preserving the traditional expression of Thai massage techniques and exercises. Both of these styles are performed without any oils, and requires that the client wear stretchable or loose clothing, allowing the therapist to perform a combination of compression and passive stretches. The therapist then maneuvers the recipient’s limbs to accommodate deep relaxing stretches. A combination of compression with assisted stretching is applied throughout the session, helping to release spasm, muscle contraction and tension, always working carefully within a safe and comfortable range of both pressure and degree of stretch.
In the case of the newly developed Ashi-Thai, we now have a modern expression of traditional Thai massage that has been modified for delivery, not only up on a massage table, but with the trademarked overhead bars. The client relaxes on a comfortable, padded massage table while the therapist stands on the table holding onto overhead bars for balance and support, using her feet to deliver the massage compression and apply deep stretches.
Clients of every age and size can benefit from this massage, famous for back and hip pain relief, increased flexibility, and deep relaxation. When done by a trained and certified deep feet massage therapist, like Julie Anderson, Ashi-Thai is safe, effective and painless, not to mention a profoundly relaxing stretching technique. The amount of pressure is carefully monitored throughout the session and easily adjusted for the client’s comfort. The safety and well-being of the client is Julie’s foremost concern.
