The benefits of salt (or sugar) scrubs on the body are numerous, if not very interesting! One of the biggest benefits, particularly with the salt scrub, is the “glow” that shows on the skin (hence often referred to as a salt “glow” treatment at many spas).
It might seem like an obvious mention, but body scrubs are a great way to exfoliate (remove) dead skin cell. This aids in getting nutrition into the body and waste products out, as was intended by the dermal system, paving the way for fresh new cells to regenerate and leaving skin looking and feeling fabulous.
Our skin, as the largest organ has many important jobs. In addition to being a beautiful birthday suit, it serves as a protective barrier against pathogens, helps with water retention and removal of debris through sweat glands and general thermoregulation (constricting and dilating pores in response to cold and heat), initiates vitamin D synthesis, and so much more.
For sensitive skin, a sugar or herbal body scrub may be more gentle; otherwise, salt scrubs are great for exfoliation. Either way, healthy oils are combined in the scrub blend for a more flowing process over the skin covering the main torso, legs, and arms, hands and feet. (Not recommended for the face as that would require a more sensitive skin blend)
The friction created during a salt glow treatment encourages the natural flow of blood and lymphatic circulation. Combined with a professional massage, the salt scrub provide the added benefits of improving skin tone while moving one from energetic invigoration to a peaceful resting state, a truly fabulous mini vacation “wave” for the soul and body.
Believe it or not, coffee grounds are the best option for use on cellulite prone areas of the body. While coffee cannot remove the fibrous bands within cellulite, they can reduce the appearance for a time by plumping up the skin, and the antioxidants within the grounds can increase collagen production. These types of salt scrubs are great for those who just happen to love the smell of coffee, too. ????
For a special treat, a choice of essential oils can be introduced to the scrub materials for an even more potent and wonderful limbic experience . Lavender is a great choice because of its known relaxing qualities, but there may be other oils that are equally luxurious and appropriate, so please ask more about adding therapeutic grade oils to any scrub.
In the House of Healing, steamy aromatic towels will be used to remove the scrub, while a healthy shea butter blend will be used to rehydrate and relax the body via Swedish massage strokes, following the scrub portion of this treatment. Makes for lovely gift certificates all year long.
